Children's and Youth Ministries

He took a little child whom they placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, "Whoever welcomes one of these children in my name, welcomes me..." Mark 9:36-37

  • A staffed nursery is available weekly during our worship service for children 0-3.

  • During the school year, children ages 3 through 1st grade are welcome to join us for Children and Worship.

Children and Worship is designed to allow children to enter into their own special place to experience God. This time prepares our young ones to be able to worship meaningfully apart from the congregation so that they become able to worship meaningfully with the congregation.

Children participate in the beginning of the Worship Service weekly, and then are dismissed for Children and Worship following the Children's Message (just prior to the sermon).

On the first Sunday of every month we partake in communion together as a church family and all of our children remain in the service. There is no Children & Worship those weeks.

  • Our children's Sunday School classes (Grades 2-8) meet during our services. Children are dismissed after the children's message. Please note that there is no Sunday School on the first Sunday of each month (Communion Sunday).

    • GRADES 2-5: Our 2nd-5th graders meet every week except the first Sunday of the month. This year they will be studying God's Big story beginning in Genesis.

    • GRADES 6-8: Our 6th-8th grade class meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. This year they are studying the book of John.
Our High School Sunday School class meets after service during the Adult Sunday School hour from 11:30 - 12:15. This year, our students in grades 9-12 will be learning about how to study the Bible as they work through a study on the book of Philippians.
  • Children are welcome to participate in Children & Worship or Sunday School, or to remain with you in the service.

When you arrive, your child can pick up a Worship Bag in the Narthex with some quiet activities based on that week's service. There are two different bags: one for children under 6, and one for ages 7+.

Worship bags can be used during the service and then returned to the Narthex to be re-filled for the following week.

  • The Rochester Christian Reformed Church Cadet Program is an independent club of the Calvinist Cadet Corps.  We are a ministry of men dedicated to bringing elementary school boys into a living relationship with their Lord and Savior.  We do this by studying the Bible, praying, working on badges, memorizing landmarks, playing games and learning about God's creation together.  We also enjoy special activities together including Amerks hockey games, pinewood derby races, church lock-ins and camp-outs at Agony Acres.

Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 6:30 - 8:00 PM, September - May.

For more information about the Calvinist Cadet Corps visit www.calvinistcadets.org or email the church office.

  • The GEMS Girls Club here at Rochester Christian Reformed Church is a special ministry for girls in Grades 1-5. Our GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior) Club meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month. Please see the Calendar for details.  We learn about God's love for us and how to show God's love to others through Bible study, badge work, crafts, music and games.

Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 6:30-8:00 PM, September - May.

The Rochester CRC GEMS are currently led by Charlene DeLallo and Christine Ferraraccio.  If you would like more information about our club, please send an email to the church office.  email

  • Youth Bell Choir meets for practices on Wednesdays from 5:15 - 6:00 PM. Children from 2nd grade to Seniors in high school participate together under the direction of Richard Astifan. They perform in our church services one time per month.

  • Rochester Christian Reformed Church aspires to include all ages in worship, discipleship and mission.  The mission of the youth ministry is to provide opportunities for our youth to be strengthened in their relationship with God, with fellow Christians and with Christ's Church.  We pray for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in all our youth, inspiring them to live joyful and obedient lives as their faith matures into adulthood.  In contemporary society young people experience pressures and temptations that in some ways are unlike, and indeed, more intrusive than those experienced by previous generations.

Our discipleship model emphasizes relationships.  Friends are always welcome! Through prayer, conversations on faith and life, service in the inner city (Flower City Work Camp and Cameron Ministries), SERVE mission trips through Youth Unlimited, youth retreats and events to build community, we hope to nurture our youth in a sincere faith that is lived out beyond church walls, even as they are also part of multi-generational community of believers.  Youth share in activities such as:

Reading powerful Bible stories that shape identity

    • Discussions that help faith to grow
    • Small groups where youth share what is on their hearts and build community with others
    • Awesome games that help them let their guard down and build relationships
    • Spending time with adults other than parents and family who care
    • Interacting with friends who accept them no matter what

Students are encouraged to be involved in the church as a body as well as the community in which they live. Service activities and fun events are planned for all who wish to participate. Financial assistance is available for activities, if needed.
